This holiday season, we want to share the story of Capri, a kitten whose life was changed thanks to supporters like you. ??
Capri was surrendered to our shelter for biting, but our vets quickly discovered the real reason behind her behavior—she was in pain from a broken leg. Thanks to your support, our medical team acted fast, giving this sweet kitten the care she needed. After a successful surgery, Capri's true, gentle nature emerged, and she was soon adopted into a loving home. ?❤️
Her story is just one of many made possible by your generosity. But there are still so many pets in need. ? With rising demand and a shortage of veterinary staff, we’re working tirelessly to provide shelter, medical care, and a chance for a loving home.
? That's where YOU come in. ?
? Through December 31st, your year-end gift will be TRIPLE matched—tripling your impact for pets like Capri. Your donation will help provide lifesaving medical care, food, and shelter for even more animals in need.
⏰ Please consider making a gift before midnight on December 31st to take advantage of this special opportunity. Together, we can ensure pets like Capri get the care they deserve and find their loving homes. ??
"The staff, volunteers, fosters and rescues who make up the Pima Animal Care Center team do an amazing job on behalf of the community. During my time serving as Interim Director, I will be sharing with you information — via this new newsletter we’re calling Shelter Scoop — that helps to tell that story. These are stories you won’t otherwise hear or see in the media, but you should.
Much of what you read is how PACC’s kennels are full. Those messages come with pleas to adopt or foster an animal. What doesn’t get as much publicity is the wonderful response to those pleas, responses that come from both members of the community, and from rescues that partner with PACC."
So begins the first edition of interim director Steve Kozachik's new weekly newsletter, Shelter Scoop, which shares a heartwarming story about the pup pictured, Blue, and our rescue partners over at Passion 4 Paws-Southern Arizona.
Meet Saint Nick, a 1-year-old Pit Bull Terrier with a heart as big as his playful spirit. Affectionate, athletic, and always up for some fun, Saint Nick adores his human friends and loves to snuggle after a day of play. He’s food-motivated, goofy, and full of charm that will keep you smiling. Found as a stray, this jolly pup is now neutered, vaccinated, and ready to meet a loving family. Saint Nick gets along well with dogs similar to himself—those who enjoy rough-and-tumble play and are around his size. With his youthful energy and sweet personality, Saint Nick would make a wonderful companion for anyone looking to add a little extra joy to their home! ?
Don't forget! PACC is currently offering FREE microchips to Pima County dogs and cats! ?
With New Year's just two weeks away, the time is NOW to prepare your pets. Microchipped pets are more than 3x more likely to make it home if lost! It's one of the best ways to make sure your pet can make it back where they belong: With their family. ?
If your pet needs to be chipped, please bring them in ASAP. We're offering free chips any time we're open now through January 5, but please don't wait! Head to our Pet Support lobby when you get here to get started ?

Meet Winifred, a 3-year-old Tortoiseshell cat with a heart full of love and a sweet, affectionate personality. She adores her human friends and would make a wonderful companion. With her medium energy, Winifred enjoys playing with wand toys and catnip but is just as happy to relax by your side. She’s been around other cats and seemed to do well, though it’s unknown how she feels about dogs. Spayed, vaccinated, and ready to meet her new family, Winifred is searching for her loving home. Could she be your new best friend? ?
Meet Aunt Clara, a 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier with a heart full of love for her people. This sweet girl came to HSSA as a stray but has quickly won everyone over with her affectionate nature. Spayed and vaccinated, Aunt Clara is ready to find her perfect match. She gets along well with dogs who share her playful, jumpy style and would love to have a family that appreciates her fun-loving personality. Aunt Clara is searching for her loving home—could it be with you? ?
Meet Raven! ?✨ This special gal is loved by many, and she's more than ready to find her way back into a loving home this holiday ??.
Raven arrived here at PACC all the way back in March when her family sadly was forced to move and wasn't able to take her to their new apartment. It's clear that Raven was well-loved by her family, who taught her a whole arsenal of tricks and said she was good with other dogs, housebroken, crate-trained, and a couch potato who loves toys. ? Unfortunately, today Raven is our longest-stay pup by consecutive days and has now spent 289 days in the shelter, waiting for another family to love her. ?
Here at the shelter, Raven is beloved by staff and volunteers, who describe her as "one of those dogs we can't believe is still here." She loves people ? (and especially loves showing off those tricks for a Milkbone or two ?) and has done well with other dogs in playgroups ?. This very excellent girl is a true favorite, and so many of us are cheering for her to find her home for this holiday and all the holidays to come. ?
Raven is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and FREE to adopt. Please come meet this special, special gal today ??! #12LongStaysOfChristmas #LongStaySunday

#DYK? In fiscal year '23-'24, PACC's Community Cats team provided TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) services to 2,142 Pima County cats! That's thousands of cats living happier, healthier lives and countless unwanted litters prevented. ?
TNR is proven to be the most humane and effective approach to reducing the overpopulation of cats in our community, and PACC's team is committed to getting these services to the cats and community members who need them. In addition to the cats TNR'ed, the team also answered 1,877 requests from help from members of the public and loaned out 610 humane traps, allowing our community to be a part of the solution.
Our Community Cats program is made possible by Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, Arizona Companion Animal Spay/Neuter (funded by buying AZ Pet Plates!), and other organizations. ?

Zaya is becoming a true rockstar when she’s out and about! ? Her recall and loose leash walking are improving every day, and she’s learning to stay calm even when tempted by nearby cats and dogs. Today, she impressed everyone by resisting the urge to grab her leash, staying focused, and making people smile as they drove by, her ears flapping happily in the wind. Don’t worry—she’s always safely clipped in for her adventures!
Way to go, Zaya! We’re so proud of her progress, all thanks to the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. Interested in volunteering with us? Learn more here ? https://hssaz.org/help/volunteer/
